How to Extract Audio From a Video: MP4 to MP3

When you only need the sound, here is how to turn an MP4 into an MP3.

Updated:

When audio-only is better

Listening to a lecture or webinar on the go, keeping or transcribing just the voice from a recorded meeting, saving your own performance as a track — often you only need the sound. Audio alone is usually a tenth of the video's size or less.

Turning MP4 into MP3

  1. Drop the video into MP4 to MP3. Several at once is fine.
  2. Pick the quality (bitrate): 128 kbps for speech, 192–320 kbps for music.
  3. Click Save when done.

For MOV, WebM or MKV, or another output format, use the Audio Converter and choose input and output.

Noisy? Clean it up

Videos recorded in classrooms or outdoors often include air-conditioning or wind noise. Put the MP3 through Noise Reduction and AI reduces background noise so voices come through clearly. You can also drop the video itself; the picture stays and only the sound is cleaned.

Respect copyright

Only convert videos you made or have permission to use. Extracting and sharing audio from paid courses or other people's videos can infringe copyright. This site doesn't download from YouTube or other online links; it only processes files already on your device.
