    Good to know

AVIF is a modern image format based on the AV1 video codec. It delivers high quality at even smaller sizes than WebP, but fewer programs support it so far.

JPG (JPEG) is the most widely used photo format. It opens on virtually every device, app and website with a reasonable file size, but it uses lossy compression and does not support transparency.

AVIF is a compact modern format, but Windows Photos, older programs and some upload forms still cannot open it. Convert to JPG and it will open anywhere.

Everything happens inside this browser. Your files are never sent over the internet, so personal photos and work images stay private, and the converted files no longer carry metadata such as GPS location.

    FAQ

My AVIF file will not convert.

Reading AVIF relies on your browser. It works in current Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari (iOS 16 or later), so try updating your browser.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Conversion runs entirely in your browser on your own device. Your files never leave your computer or phone.

Can I convert many files at once?

Yes. Add as many files as you like; they are converted one after another and you can download them all with Save all (ZIP).

Does it work on my phone?

Yes, in iPhone and Android browsers. Very large images may be scaled down automatically to fit your device’s memory.
