How to Remove Backgrounds From Product Photos (and Make Them White)

Remove the background from product shots in seconds and switch it to white — no Photoshop needed.

Why clean cut-outs matter

Many marketplaces recommend or require a white background for the main image — Amazon, for example, asks for pure white. For detail pages, banners and thumbnails, a transparent PNG of the product makes design much easier. What used to take careful Photoshop work now takes AI a few seconds.

Making a white-background main image

  1. Drop product photos into White Background Maker. Several at once is fine.
  2. Turn on Crop to the subject so the product fills the frame.
  3. Check the results and use Save all to get one ZIP.

Each sales channel has its own image rules (background colour, minimum size, how much of the frame the product fills). Check the seller guidelines before uploading.

When you need a transparent PNG

To place the product on another background or make thumbnails, banners and stickers, choose Transparent (PNG) in the Background Remover. The checkerboard in the preview marks transparent areas. For a brand colour, use Custom colour to fill it in directly.

Shooting tips for clean cut-outs

  • Contrast: white products on a dark backdrop, dark products on a light one.
  • Fewer shadows: window light or two lamps from both sides softens them.
  • Fill the frame: a huge background area makes edges less precise.
  • Watch transparent or shiny items: glass and plastic wrap may keep a bit of background.

Sizing and finishing

Stores recommend different sizes (often a square of at least 1000×1000). Resize with the Image Resizer after the cut-out. Zoom in on the edges; if some background remains, re-shooting a little brighter is usually the fastest fix.

FAQ

Can I use the results commercially?

Yes. The IS-Net model used is Apache-2.0, which allows commercial use. Use your own photos — copying another brand's images can infringe copyright.

Does it work on people?

Yes, people and pets work well. Very fine hair may lose a little detail.

How many photos at once?

Add as many as you like; they're processed one by one, typically 5–15 seconds each on a computer.
