Good to know

This tool uses the browser’s Screen Wake Lock API. It tells your operating system the screen is in use, which prevents screen dimming, screen savers and display sleep — no software to install and no power settings to change.

It only works while this page is visible. If you switch tabs or windows, the browser releases the lock and re-acquires it when you come back. That’s why the black screen and clock modes are the most reliable.

A black screen turns OLED pixels almost fully off, so it uses little power and avoids burn-in. Note that system sleep on some computers may still follow your OS power settings.

FAQ

Does it work with the laptop lid closed?

No. Closing the lid puts the computer to sleep. This tool keeps an open screen from turning off.

Can I keep it on while using other apps?

Browsers only allow the wake lock while the page is visible. If another window covers it, the lock may be released. Put this tab in its own small window to keep it visible.

Will it drain my battery?

The screen stays on, so it uses that power. Black screen mode uses the least on OLED displays, and the auto-off timer protects you if you forget.
